Letter from former JBS CEO and current Councilmember Allen Bubolz to Art Thompson and Jack McManus
October 9, 2006

Arthur Thompson, CEO
John F. McManus, President
The John Birch Society
P.O. Box 8040
Appleton, WI 54912

Dear Art and Jack:

Thank you for inviting Kay and me to attend the upcoming meetings in North Carolina. We are still in the process of determining whether or not we will be able to attend.

In anticipation of those meetings, and after discussing the matter with others, I’d like to make a request of you.

Before we gather in North Carolina, will you please provide to all members of the Council a progress report measured from October 2005 to October 2006? Please include a financial statement as well as membership and chapter growth reports for that period of time. Also, please provide us with the list of field coordinators and where they are stationed. It is my understanding that we are presently down to 13 coordinators.

You have now had control of The John Birch Society for one full year. And while many accusations have been made about the former leadership, we now know that upon their departure the Society was out of debt and it owned free and clear its Appleton buildings.

The disruptive and hostile takeover of the Society one year ago has caused a great trauma to the organization. We now deserve to know your year-long results so we can decide for ourselves if we were wise to support your “emergency” action and what, if any, next steps should be taken.

With my esteemed colleagues, I await your response.

Sincerely,

G. Allen Bubolz
JBS Council Member (March 1986)
